Shopify / Ottawa, Canada / 2017–present

After building out the content strategy team at Shopify, I took on a new role as the multi-disciplinary UX lead for a group of products. I lead teams of product designers, content strategists, and user researchers to create amazing experiences for Shopify's analytics and merchant education products.

Shopify / Ottawa, Canada / 2015–2017

I established the discipline of product content strategy as a core part of the user experience organization at Shopify, and scaled the team from one (hi!) to 10+. That meant:

  • Overhauling voice and tone guidelines and content style guide
  • Establishing reusable product content patterns across Shopify products
  • Training hundreds of Shopifolk on content standards with both vim and vigor
  • Collaborating with senior leadership to integrate content strategy and information architecture into the product design process
  • Hiring, training, and managing a team of content strategists

Yellow Pencil Inc. / Edmonton and Vancouver, Canada / 2011–2015

I led enterprise web content strategy and information architecture projects for municipal and provincial government, crown corporations, financial services, and private sector organizations across the US and Canada.

I established a complete enterprise content strategy practice, including:

  • Discovery: User research, stakeholder research, content audits and analyses, search and web traffic analytics
  • Design: Information architecture, content strategies, editorial strategies, social media strategies, gap analyses, taxonomies and metadata, content modelling, workflow plans, CMS content author environment designs
  • Development: page tables, content creation, HTML and CSS, technical writing, web writing training, voice and tone guides, style guides
  • Deployment: Content migration, editorial calendars, governance plans, CMS training
